Why I Travel—And Why You Might Too

When I was a little girl, my mom told me something that has stayed with me my entire life: "If you can read, you can travel the world." At the time, it was her way of encouraging me to explore beyond my small world through books, even if I couldn’t physically go anywhere. School schedules and family responsibilities meant that vacations weren’t always possible, but my imagination took me everywhere—through the pages of stories, history, and far-off places.

Now, as an adult, I no longer have to rely on books alone. I have the freedom to decide when and where I want to go, and I’ve made the conscious choice to see the world rather than accumulate stuff. But what about you? Have you ever stopped to think about why you travel—or why you don’t?

I travel because I love adventure—the thrill of stepping into the unknown, navigating new cities, and embracing experiences that push me beyond my comfort zone. I travel because I love people—meeting locals, connecting with fellow travelers, and learning about different cultures through the stories of those who live them. I travel because I love food—sitting at a street-side café in Paris, savoring the spices of a Moroccan tagine, or indulging in fresh seafood along the Mediterranean. Every meal is a lesson in history, tradition, and community. And above all, I travel because I love learning—about the world, about humanity, and about myself. Each journey teaches me something new, challenges my perspectives, and reminds me how vast yet connected our world truly is.

But what about you? If you're reading this, then travel must mean something to you. Do you already explore the world, or is something holding you back? Are you trading your vacation time for more work? Are you filling your home with gadgets instead of experiences? If money, time, or even health is a barrier, could there be a way to work around it? Maybe this blog can help you find a path to travel, even in small ways—whether through planning smarter, embracing new perspectives, or finding travel inspiration that fits your life.

For me, travel isn’t about escaping life; it’s about fully embracing it. It’s about saying yes to new experiences, finding joy in the unfamiliar, and collecting memories instead of possessions. My mother’s words set me on a path of exploration, and now, with every passport stamp and every new destination, I continue to live out that lifelong lesson—traveling not just with my feet, but with my heart and mind wide open.

So, what about you? Why do you travel—or why don’t you? And if you dream of seeing the world, what’s one step you can take today to make it happen?
